You can thank the Janjaweed for much of the violence in Sudan. The Janjaweed are a militia group who are member of the nomadic “ Arab” tribes. Hostility between the “ Arab” tribes and the “ African” farms has only grown and grown, but its was not until 2003 when there was an inadequate amount of food and recourses the that the hostility broke out.
The term Janjaweed translates into “ devil on horse” which corresponds perfect because they are known for raiding villages on horses and camels. As of 2003 the Janjaweed have become more aggressive, raiding specific towns filled with African tribes, where the rebels draw their troops. During these raids women are rapes, children are forced to kill their own family and join the Janjaweed army, houses are burned, and people are brutality beaten and killed with any weapon available.
Many people question where the Janjaweed get all their power and military weapons from, but people can thank the Sudanese government for that. The Sudanese government is responsible for recruiting the Janjaweed, and equipping them. It is sad that after the government is through with a town the Janjaweed is directed to do the follow up, killing any survivors or witnesses, covering up the track. Although the government does deny these accusations, there are numerous accounts and proof verifying over wise.
