What is our problem?

I find myself wondering what in God’s name would compel a person to annihilate a whole population, kill millions of people? What obscuration of the mind has occurred in our society today for people to follow this new trend of Genocide?
After an immense amount of pondering I have come to two conclusions. One being that our problem revolves around human natures soul tragic flaw: selfishness. People seem to always place themselves before others. Therefore instead of being concerned with rapid deaths of Jews in WWII, countries like Canada, USA, and Britain, sat back for a while concerning themselves with individual crimes within their countries. Everyone wants to make sure they have enough money, security, and happiness until they are willing to lend a helping hand. And it seems to be that generally it is not until there is a unity among nations to stop acts of genocide that anything is done about it. No one ever is willing to stick out their neck too far for justice. It is just too uncomfortable for them, and in reality they are only concerned about themselves.
My Second conclusions, revolves around the fact of how genocide actually comes to be, because most logical people if presented with the idea to whip out nations, would veto it immediately. An example questions to enhance understanding would be “ why did people follow Hitler in his wild tactics and plans?” The answer to this question brings about human nature’s second major flaw: fear. People are too scared to stand up for what is right, because they are afraid of getting hurt, or being in a threatening position. Someone like Hitler is obviously very intimidating because of the amount of power, which he has attained.
In conclusion what our problem is, if our fearful and selfish human nature. We never want to place ourselves in a position of endangerment, because we are essentially concerned about ourselves above all.
