Dehumanization

There are eight stages that characterize the steps towards complete genocide, out of which Dehumanization is by far the scariest. Dehumanization is only the third step in genocide, but it my opinion it is the point of no return. What happens during dehumanization is the perpetrator group denies the humanity of another group. Instead of humans they are thought as animals, as annoying as black flies that swarm one’s head on a hot day.
Once this group is dehumanized, it becomes okay to treat them as animals. Dehumanization diminishes the normal guilt or remorse that one would have for murdering another. It allows one to treat another no more than one would treat dirt. The scariest and key word in the past sentence is “allowed”, Dehumanization makes it all okay. From there on it is just a downward hill. Hate propaganda is forced into the minds of the innocence, creating anger towards the victim group. All of their rights as humans like food, water, shelter, free speech, equality, are all swept from underneath their feet, because no longer are they considered humans. How they are treated is of no importance any more, the only importance is to get rid of them, like one wishes to be rid of a disease, because that is all they are now. Scary that one day one is treated as an equal in society, then the next a infuriating nat doomed for a sudden death.
