Change of conflict

As our century and society has pressed forward, we have noted a new era of war. In previous century war was fought with pride and honor, and never focused on the killing of the general public. Now we see almost every country of the world target civilians as a new war tactic. Where this cruel new tactic originated from was during WWII where the USA and other fighting forces bombed the German coast, killing many civilian, in order to secure some land to move forward with. This tactic has proven to be very successful causing the destruction and chaos of society to reflect on the victim’s military to preform.
Now the question comes, what is the difference between targeting civilians, guerrilla warfare and genocide? In my opinion the three have morphed together. Targeting a specific countries people group, is classified as the killing of a certain nationality or origin, which is most defiantly genocide. So now has war turned into genocide? The answer is probably, in some cases. Now the next question is how does guerrilla warfare fit it? Gorilla warfare is know for it inhumane cruelty, but take examples like “ agent orange” which was a chemical drop on Vietnamese people by the US during war. Looking at some of the picture to the side, you can see the cruel effect it had on the civilian. So is that not an act of gorilla warfare, using chemicals to cause extreme and painful abnormality within the Vietnamese culture? I think so
I personally believe that the old and distinct line between war, genocide, and gorilla war, was become very fine, and almost undetectable. This is a very scary thought for the future.

Summary of Darfur Crisis

The Darfur crisis is a conflict located in the Darfur region of western Sudan. It is interestingly complicated because there is not just two sides, as most genocides or war have, but three sides. The two main sides in this conflict are the Sudanese Military and the Janjaaweed Militia who are mostly recruited from tribes in the north. The Janaweeds main goal is basically the main problem, because they wish to "cleanse" black Africans from large swathes of territory The third side is a mix of rebel groups, notably the Sudan Liberation Movement and the Justice and Equality movement.

The Sudanese government denies the support of the Janjaweed, but proof has shown that they have provided money and assistance to the militia and actually participated in join attacks on the tribes with the Darfuria rebels draw support. Therefore to make it clear in reality it is the Sudanese military and the Janjaweed against the rebel groups.
The conflict began in February 2003, that of which most of the victims in Darfur have been Black Muslims. This constant attack of the non-Baggara civilian populace has resulted in major humanitarian crisis. As of now an estimate 450,000 are dead (even thought the government claims 9,000) and 2.5 have been forced to leave their homes.

It is sick but the Sudanese government has done a great job as hiding the information by jailing or murdering witnesses since 2004, and tampering with evidence. Disturbing mass graves and arresting journalist are quite common methods that the government uses to obscure what is going on.

What is going on in Darfur has been described by the mass media as “ ethnic cleansing” and “ genocide”, and although US recognizes it as genocide, the UN does not. Instead the U.N has accused Sudan’s government of orchestration and taking part in gross violations. This violation basically is accusing the Sudan’s government and the Pro-government Arab militias of crimes again the regions black African population, calling for urgent international action to protect civilians. The action was called “ Resolution 1706” and called for 17,300 UN peace keeping troops to help support poorly equipped African Union peace keeping force, but their action was denied by Sudan.

Cause of Darfur Crisis

The Darfur Crisis begins in the arid and impoverished regions early in 2003 after some rebel groups began attacking government targets, saying the region was being neglected by Khartoum. The rebels accused the government of oppressing the black in favor of the Arabs
The two main rebel groups are the Sudan Liberation Army and the Justice and Equality movement
As of now the Janjaweed with the government have allied again the rebel groups and are oppressing the blacks

Guerilla warfare...

Often I am noticing that the Janjaweed are blamed for all their brutality, but in fact the rebels, government and Janjaweed are all responsible for gorilla warfare.
I just wanted to make that clear, there does not seem to be any innocent party here.

Darfur Awareness video

I personally really enjoy videos with music, they move me, so i wanted to put this on my blog, for me it brough some of the images more to life, they were clear.

Who are the Janjaweed?

You can thank the Janjaweed for much of the violence in Sudan. The Janjaweed are a militia group who are member of the nomadic “ Arab” tribes. Hostility between the “ Arab” tribes and the “ African” farms has only grown and grown, but its was not until 2003 when there was an inadequate amount of food and recourses the that the hostility broke out.
The term Janjaweed translates into “ devil on horse” which corresponds perfect because they are known for raiding villages on horses and camels. As of 2003 the Janjaweed have become more aggressive, raiding specific towns filled with African tribes, where the rebels draw their troops. During these raids women are rapes, children are forced to kill their own family and join the Janjaweed army, houses are burned, and people are brutality beaten and killed with any weapon available.
Many people question where the Janjaweed get all their power and military weapons from, but people can thank the Sudanese government for that. The Sudanese government is responsible for recruiting the Janjaweed, and equipping them. It is sad that after the government is through with a town the Janjaweed is directed to do the follow up, killing any survivors or witnesses, covering up the track. Although the government does deny these accusations, there are numerous accounts and proof verifying over wise.

Bleak Black Box

From an outsiders perspective it is obvious that the black people in Darfur are being seriously oppressed. If the UN is suppose to be composed of our world leaders, there is no doubt they should be intelligent enough to distinguish the crisis in Sudan as Genocide, right? Anyone who is naive enough to believe that the UN does not see it as genocide, need to give their head a shake, because the UN defiantly does, but there are other interest at stake preventing the UN from taking Action.
During a social class a couple of us were given the task to look into the truth behind the reasoning for the UN not taking more action. After going through an immense amount of information we concluded that it is due to China success over Sudan’s Oil. China has been able to benefit in the past couple years over Sudan unstable economy. Many other countries are afraid to put any money into Sudan’s oil because of how unstable the country is, therefore China who has invested in Sudan’s oil has been able to create a monopoly of the oil industry there. As of now China receives over 7 percent of its income in its economy directly from Sudan’s oil. Also as of right now China is experiencing a rapid industrialization, so they need the oil they are receiving from Sudan. Now here is what poses the problem, if the UN was to go in on terms of genocide, many drastic measure would be taken like no trading with Sudan, and as a result it can be assured that China would loss its market in Sudan. Losing the market in Sudan would mean China would loss over 7 percent of the annually income. To put that into perspective, image a 100 billion dollar economy, losing 7 percent, that would be 7 billion dollars, which is not a easy thing to recover from losing. Basically China’s entire market would crash if their Sudan oil income was to cease.
In order to ensure that China’s economy does not crash, at the UN meeting, China would most likely veto any invasion in Sudan. China is able to veto any plan of action seeing as they are part of the Security Council. Therefore because China vetoes the UN going into Sudan, the UN is incapable of classifying the Sudan crisis as an act of genocide, because that would require, with out questioning, the UN to take action.
As one can see it is a sick world that one’s economy comes before hundreds of thousands of lives.

Rwanda Game Day 2

Well day two of the Rwanda Game has come to an end. Many people were shot today, and again I felt utterly confused with the whole process. Gosh being a leader is so complicated, I mean I have to think of my personal interests, the personal interest of my country, then the personal interests of my people, then the interest of other leaders, because their decisions effect me, and its all a chain reaction. People do not always abide by their words, and it is hard to trust anyone. Boy this life is too complicated to me, I am so thankful I am not a politician, I just came to a realization how much I would hate it, if I want to be a good liar I will just be a lawyer.

Everyone wants to win

Rwanda game Day 1

Wow this first day has been a mess. I never knew how complicated it was to be a world leader. I am a Belgian diplomat, with some power, but not a lot of money. My main goal is to gain money thus far.
I find my self-concerned with matters in Africa because I have made some deal to protect people who are in Africa, in exchange for money.
I personally do not seem to have any enemies, meaning I do not really have to worry about my own safety. This provides me with some security and help seeing as I am looking for the UN’s support in some planning I have. My plans remain secret as of now, but I can assure the public that they are of good nature. In order to achieve my support I have been making some other deals with the French leader, seeing as he holds a lot of power in the UN. If I can get him on my side, and he can launch my idea, as well as support it, then hopefully it will follow through.
In our deals we have not traded much and the only assurance I have that he (French) will follow through with his word, I hope that is enough? However I doubt it is, there is nothing holding him back, no black mail or power that I can use against him to ensure he abides by his word. If I held more power, I am sure he would be more concerned, and would want to make sure he and I were on good terms, but as of now I do not think it would matter to him if we were not. I am only the small country of Belgian, I preside he has bigger things to worry about.
It is a sad thought, but something that I am learning very quickly in this game is that is that people are deceptive and selfish, they only look out for themselves , and most seem to lie, cheat and steal in order to benefit themselves. In this game I even found my self in this situation because I stole money, I found one piece of money on the floor and took it, then another time I lied to the bank in order to give me more, but its all a game even in the real world and everyone wants to win

A New, New years resolution

Get my head out of the sand box!! The nice protected box which allows people in Canada to ignorantly yet happily ignore the rest of the worlds problems, including the mass genocide which has happen in the last century, and is probably happening right now! Ahh what would Canada do with out its precious box? Hmmm maybe actually do something!

Frustration

Ahhh I am getting so angered just reading more and more of all the different genocide I have never even heard of, and being able to do nothing about it. I am also angered that I have not known anything about it until now. I asked my parents if they had heard of some of the genocides, they vaguely stated a couple off the top of the list, but genocides which killed 5 million people like what Hedeki Tojo did in japan, they knew nothing about. HOW CAN WE KNOW NOTHING? Five million people do not just go missing of the face of our earth with out someone knowing.

War isn’t the century’s biggest killer…

Our century has seen an immense amount of bloody wars, and an incredible death rate in those wars. WWI kill 9 million in battle, while WWII set a record of 15 million, and by adding up all wars in total, our century has see 35,652,000 killed in conflict. Yet surprisingly those vast numbers are out done by the century total killed by absolutist government, ie. genocide.
The table below provides the total killed and classifies them by the type of government killing verses war. The term government killing means any direct or indirect killing by leadership, except execution from crimes, ie. murder, rape, treason. The government killing is also apart from any military action in war. An example the Jews that Hitler killed would obviously be counted because they were killer merciless, and war was not a factor in the killing.

After finding this information, it became more obvious to me how our focus in the west is in the wrong place. I mean after researching different genocides I knew something needed to be done, but even more now I realize how serious of an issue this is. I mean almost triple the amount killed in war over that past century have been killed by genocide. Therefore all the billions of dollar we in the west spend on war really should be redirected elsewhere.

A Perpect depiction of our world's contribuation to stop genocide

Its no one's problem

Amongst the battles, the Small UN peacekeeping force has been overwhelmed with the terrified Tutsi and politician seeking protection
What is sad thought is that after ten soldiers from Belgium were captured by the Hutus, tortured, and murdered, the United States, France, Italy and Belgium began to evacuate their troops from Rwanda.
No efforts were made to evacuate the Tutsi civilians or Hutu moderates; they were left behind at the mercy of the brutal Hutu.
“Back at U.N headquarters in New York, the killings were initially categorized as a breakdown in the cease-fire between the Tutsi and Hutu. Throughout the massacre, both the U.N. and the U.S. carefully refrained from labeling the killings as genocide, which would have necessitated some kind of emergency intervention. “
After the Red Cross estimated that hundreds of thousands of Tunsi had been massacred in a span of fifteen days, the U.N Security council responded by an unanimous vote to abandon Rwanda. All except for 200 soldiers were evacuated from the country
Apparently it’s no ones problem

Rwanda Genocide

Hostility between the aristocratic Tutsi of Rwanda and the other 90 percent of Rwanda called Hutu, has evolved immensely over the last century. On April 6 1994 , Rwanda President Habyalimana and Burundi's new President, Cyprien Ntaryamir, while returning to Rwanda’s airport at Kigalia, were shot down and killed. Immediately after their deaths Hutu extremists filled with animosity began to target the Tutsi leaders and moderate Hutu politicians who had been on their death list for years. Thus the killing began. In 1994 the Rwanda Hutu government launched a systematic genocide of their minority Tutsi citizens. In four months ( 100 days), government forced and militia murder approximately 800,000 Tutsi, and any Hutu reluctant to join in, they slaughtered. The Tutsi’s were separated from the Hutu’s and were beaten to death with machetes, or knives. On April 8, 1994 the RPF (Rwanda Patriotic front) which was made up of about 14,000 Tutsi refuges, initialed a major campaign to end the genocide and rescued 600 of its troops around Kigalia. This failed.
This genocide includes seven stages of genocide. It did not include the eighth stage because they did not deny it happening, but did say it was not genocide.
Rwanda’s economy still suffered from this tragedy, and there is little hope of a quick recovery. The reason is that there is still a huge amount of resentment between the two groups. Tutsis are increasingly convinced that the only way to ensure their survival is to repress the Hutu, and the Hutu’s believe they have been proclaimed guilty by association and that no one cares about their suffering under the current Tutsi-led government. Extremist on both side retain the belief that the only solution is the annihilation of the other.

Reflection...

Again I find myself wondering, why did it take four years to recognize and do something, how many hundreds of thousands of lives could have been saved? I do not doubt that again the world knew or at least had some idea of what was going on, but presided to ignore and remain ignorant. Another question is why did only the Vietnamese step into help, obviously if the US or any other world power, had put a slight effort to stop Pol’s attempts, it would not have taken 17 years to bring him down. Ahh my frustration boils over!

Glimpse at Cambodia Genocide

Cambodia

The Cambodia genocide was an attempt by a man named Pol Pot leader of the Khmer Rouge to form a communist peasant farming society. His thrive for what he thought to be perfection ended in over 25 percent of the country’s population dead due to starvation, overwork, and executions
How Pol Pot began his observed thinking was in Paris where he became absorbed into Marxism and neglected his studies. Eventually he went back to Cambodia and joined an underground communist movement.
By 1962, Pol was leader of the communist party and due to threats by Cambodia’s leader of the time, fled to the jungle where he built up an army based on gorilla warfare. His gorilla warfare was intended to ousted Cambodia’s leader Prince Sihanouk, but the US in 1970 did that for Pol, and in retaliation the prince joined Pol pot’s party called the Khmer Rouge
In 1970 the US invaded Cambodia to expel the North Vietnamese from their border encampments, but instead drove them deeper into Cambodia. Bombs from the US’s fight in Cambodia from 1969-1973 killed 1500 00 Cambodian peasant, who with the driven Vietnamese, all allied together in the Khmer Rouge army. Soon enough the rouge arm marched into the capital city called Phnom Penh and seized control.
Now that Pol pot was in power he began his radical experiment to create an agrarian utopia, which was inspired by china’s Mao’s Great leap forward. This consisted of the purging of class enemies. Pol renamed this “The Democratic Republic of Kampuchea.”
He began by extinguishing capitalism, western culture, city life, religion, and all foreigners, in turn for peasant communism. All foreigners were expelled and any form of media was closed down, even telephone usage curtailed, sealing off Cambodia from the outside world.
Then began the preparation where every city was evacuated into the country fields at gunpoint, over 20, 000 were killed during this process alone. Once in field there were forced into Pol pot’s killing fields were they bean to die from being over worked, mal-nutrition and disease. Their diet was 180 grams of rice, which would be about a tin size, ever two days. They worked brutal 18 hour days, where the younger Khmer Rouge were eager to kill anyone for slightest disturbance.
Through out this process there were often deadly purged to eliminate the “ old society”, meaning the educated, wealth, Buddhist, police, doctor and so forth. Forms of killing included bludgeoned with an ax. Anyone suspected of being disloyal to Pol Pot were shot on the spot without questioning.
For four year the brutality of Pol Pot continued, killing 1, 700,000 people, almost 2 million people. It was not until the new Vietnamese government invaded Cambodia and stopped Pol pot that some of the killing stopped. Still it took 17 years of fighting to finally bring Pol into custody. Before trial in 1975 Pol died.

Denial

After studying only a small amount of the different genocide, I already see a patter. The patter is that it is not only the perpetrators who take part in the eight stage of genocide. It seems that both the perpetrators and the rest of the countries world wide, both denying what actually has or is happening until a later date. The Armenian Genocide is just one example, because it is not until now that people are actually recognizing that what happened was in fact genocide. The holocaust is another example, because Canada, Britain, and USA were is total denial that Jews were being macerated by the thousands each day. It is scary how surrounding countries have to wait till million upon millions have died to begging to step in, or worst don’t even step in and have to wait years to even recognize “ opps we made a mistake that was genocide”. Sometimes I wonder in the past and even present what idiots are making the decisions determining if something is genocide or not? Then I wonder are these idiots blind too? It just boggles my mind to think how dumb human society has become to not recognize genocide. But I guess going back to a past blog, we do recognize it most of the time, we are just too selfish to go actually help.

Selfish Selfish Selfish

So basically the whole reasoning for the Armenian genocide was that the Turks wanted the land that the Armenia’s called their homeland. So obviously a totally rational solution would be to kill the whole Armenia race, I mean what else could one do? (Note tone of sarcasm) It just sickens me the selfishness of humanity, just because you want something that is not yours to begin with, does not mean you kill for it, or wipe out a total race, filled with life, culture, and history. If this is what our world has come to we are so far past the line of human decency, so far past the line of animalistic behavior, we can’t even see the lines. I honestly do not know how we can get any further, I dare to even ask the question, is there really anything worst that what humanity has come up with thus far?

I placed this cartoon in there to depict the selfish nature we have

Cause of Armenian Genocide

The cause of the Armenian genocide beings with a thriving Armenian community in the Middle East bored. The Armenian had lived there for three thousand years and had created a very prosperous homeland. Even thought many different people types throughout the years like Greeks, and Persians had ruled the homeland, but still the Armenian pride and culture was never wavered.
It was not until the eleventh century when the Turkish invaded the Armenian homeland, that there was a problem. By the sixteenth century, Armenia had been absorbed into the vast Ottoman Empire, which by the 1800 began to decline in power. The Turks that were once invincible were now no match to the modern European armies. As the empire continued to decline many ethnic groups like the Greeks and Serbs were given their independence under the Turkish Ottoman. It was only the Armenian who were denied their right to independence.
Note: In the map, the dark red spots of the areas of the mass murders, while the white spots are the concentration camps
As the Turkish Empire began to reform in 1890, young Armenians pressed for political reform. The Sultan of the Turk’s response was with brutal massacres. Soon after these massacres the young Turks took power over the ottoman and deemed their own ambitions for the future of Turkey. They wished to expand turkey and create a “great eternal land” called Turan, but the historic land of Armenia lay in their path, thus the solution was to wipe out the Armenian’s.
The Turks had to wait till a prime moment to begin the killing, so when the rest of the world was focused on world war 1, the whipping out of the Armenia’s began. First of all the Armenia’s were un-included from society, all rights were taken away including the right to bare arms, a method of defense.
On April 23 1915 coded telegrams were sent out to round up Armenia and exterminate. This process including taking Armenia’s from their homes, torturing, hanging,
shooting, death marches into the dessert were lack of food and extreme heat were kill 75 percent, and the rest were pushed over cliffs or cut up. Basically the only Armenia’s left living were attractive younger females, destined for a life of forced sexual service, basically rape.

सुम्मर्य ऑफ़ अर्मेनियन गेनोसिद

The first genocide of the twentieth century was the Armenian genocide. It occurred when
two million Armenians living in Turkey were eliminated from their historic homeland through forced deportations and massacres.
April 24, 1915 marks the darkest day in Armenians 3000 year history. A day that has left a deep scar in the hearts of Armenians worldwide! That day the Ottoman Turkish government began the systematic genocide of the Armenian people. By 1922, 1.5 million Armenians had been slaughtered. Decades have passed and yet the civilized world is only now beginning to recognize and accept the facts about the American genocide and crimes committed by the Ottoman Turks in the forgotten Genocide of the twentieth century
This particular genocide includes all 8 stages of genocide, from classification, to dehumanization, to extermination, and finally denial.

The Silent scream

Are abortions an act of genocide?
As I was reading into the different articles in the “universal declaration of human right” an interesting question popped into my head: is abortion an act of genocide? I personally have never agreed with it because I think it is murder, but as of now I also think it is genocide as well. I mean how can one deny that it goes against article 2, because it is singling out a group of people based on their status, of a fetus. It does go against article 3 that everyone has the right to life, liberty and security. The poor children do not have a chance of any life, someone who thinks they are superior (which not goes against article one that everyone is equal) just decides to kill them because they are unwanted. Yet the fact they are unwanted is the same mentality that the Germans had with the Jews, they did now want them, they thought they were inferior to them.
I mean the fact that Canada supports abortion, could that leave the blood on our hands? We as Canadians are standing by and doing nothing, at least I know I am, and we are taking away babies rights to education, nationality, shelter, food, security, and all different aspects of the “Universal Declaration of Human rights”. There is littler room to argue that abortion violates the declaration of human rights on many accounts. Some people might attempt to ague that that the baby in the woman’s womb is only a fetus, but to be classified as a human, you must have a body mind and soul, which however small that baby’s body, mind, and soul may be, it is never the less there, therefore classifying as a human.
The Following video is a power look at abortion, if interested there is another video on youtube.com, called the silent scream part three, which shows the 12 week baby fighting away from the vacuum, and silently opening its mouth, to scream, but the scream is not head. Obviously this is evidence that the babies know what is going on, they are conscience, they are humans.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights

There are a total of 30 different articles, all of which create the Universal Declaration of human right. This Declaration was created in 1984 and is a declaration to the world as a whole and every single human being in it. In saying this it implies that no human on earth, no matter what, should be treated with the indecency of genocide because it violates the following articles in the agreement
Article 1: All humans’ beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.

 The first step of genocide classifies humans as higher or lower, therefore violating article one because all humans of born free and EQUAL!
Article 2: Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinions, nations or social origins, property, birth or other status.
 Obviously killing only Jews or Tutsi’s is purposeful distinction of a race
Article 3: Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person
 Taking someone’s life or even torturing them goes again their right to life and their security

Article 5: No one subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
 Killing, torturing, and all the cruelty in genocide towards a race goes against article 5
The list continued with more articles that genocide presides to go again. It is very obviously of how genocide breaks these laws
Article 8: Everyone has the right to en effective remedy by the competent national tribunals for acts violating the fundamental rights granted him by the constitution or by law.
Act 12: Everyone has the right to protection of the law against such interference or attacks
Article 13: Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state
(1) Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own and to return to his country.
Article 15 : everyone has the right to a nationality
(1) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his nationality nor denied the right to change his nationality
Article 17 : Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others
Article 18: Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right included freedom to change religion or belief, and freedom either alone or in community with others and in public or private to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship, and observance.
Article 19: Everyone has the right to freedom of opinions and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers
Article 22: Everyone as a member of society has the right to social security and is entitled to realization, through national effort and international cooperation and in accordance with the organization and resourced of each state, of the economics, social and cultural rights indispensable for his dignity and the free development of his personality.
Article 25: Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself, and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.
Article 26: everyone has the right to education
Article 28 Everyo9ne is entitled to a social and international order in which the rights and freedoms set forth in this declaration can be fully realized.
Article 30: Nothing in this declaration may be interpreted as implying for any state, group or person any right to engage in any activity or to perform any act aimed at the destruction of any of the rights and freedom set forth herein.

Dehumanization

There are eight stages that characterize the steps towards complete genocide, out of which Dehumanization is by far the scariest. Dehumanization is only the third step in genocide, but it my opinion it is the point of no return. What happens during dehumanization is the perpetrator group denies the humanity of another group. Instead of humans they are thought as animals, as annoying as black flies that swarm one’s head on a hot day.
Once this group is dehumanized, it becomes okay to treat them as animals. Dehumanization diminishes the normal guilt or remorse that one would have for murdering another. It allows one to treat another no more than one would treat dirt. The scariest and key word in the past sentence is “allowed”, Dehumanization makes it all okay. From there on it is just a downward hill. Hate propaganda is forced into the minds of the innocence, creating anger towards the victim group. All of their rights as humans like food, water, shelter, free speech, equality, are all swept from underneath their feet, because no longer are they considered humans. How they are treated is of no importance any more, the only importance is to get rid of them, like one wishes to be rid of a disease, because that is all they are now. Scary that one day one is treated as an equal in society, then the next a infuriating nat doomed for a sudden death.

8 stages of Genocide

During genocide there are eight common steps that are genially taken, and must be taken for an act to be considered genocide, these are the following:
1. Classification: Cultures are categorized to distinguish people into them and us by ethnic race, religion or nationality. An example would be Jews and Germans, Hutu and Tutsi
Prevention: search for common ground with the different categorizes emerging
2. Symbolization: a name or other symbol is used to classify groups, or they are distinguishing by color or dress. An example would be the Jewish yellow star (Note that symbolization are universally human and no not necessarily result in genocide, unless they lead to the next stage dehumanization and are combined with hatred
Prevention: Legally outlaws hate symbols like the swastikas
3. Dehumanization: One group denies the humanity of the other group. Member of it are equated with animals, vermin, insects or diseases. At this stage hate propaganda is aired through the media
Prevention: Outlaw any type of hate media; if the public cannot see it, it is hard for them to follow
4. Organization: Genocide is usually organized through the state and militias are trained to carry out genocidal killing
Prevention: militias outlawed or combated with war, genocide leaders are denied visas for foreign travel, UN create investigation commissions
5. Polarization: extremist drive groups apart, laws are created to social interaction

6. Preparation: Victims are identified and separated out because of their ethnic or religious identity, death list are draw up. Victims offend segregated into ghettoes, forced into concentrations camps or confined to a region and starve.
Prevention: UN Security Council can mobilize, armed intervention should be prepared or heavily assist victim group in preparing for its self-defense.

7. Extermination: Quickly victim group begins to be killed
Prevention: rapid military needed to stop killing before extermination complete
8. Denial: perpetrators of genocide dig up the mass graves, burn the bodies and cover up evidence; they deny what they did or victim for it.
 Prosecution of perpetrators MUST be fulfilled, justice must be served!

Side note, would I trust my government?

Would I trust my government to not commit genocide? I would like to think that I would, but say the government is sick of all the money held up in the west by the red neck Albertans, or they were sick of the French English rivalry, what would they do? It is a sad state of mind to think that one’s government would not protect all of it citizens, but I have really began to see what drives people today, and it is themselves. It may be a very pessimistic statement to say that my government might not protect me, but I do believe it is a possibility. Of course I have no solid evidence or proof, but since researching motives of all government for their action, hardly ever do I see the citizens come first. No it is usually money, resources, and the pursuit of power that come first. A current example would how no one is really stopping the genocide in the Sudan because China attains 7 percent of its income from trade with Sudan. Therefore China has most likely veto any country from going into Sudan because they do not want to upset their economy. Obviously it is not the people who at the top of the priority list it is money.
Although Canada thus far has a fairly noble reputation and I would doubt they would harm their citizen for money, still I only see one common trend amongst countries in the past and present. The common trend is the need to power, money and recourses, not safety and well being of citizen. Therefore it is not unreasonable to have my doubts…

On what level does genocide fall under, national or international?

A common debate over genocide begins with the discussion of should it be dealt with on a national or international level? Often people argue that when another countries butts into stop genocide they are butting into another’s sphere of influence, concerning themselves with matters that are none of their business. After reading “ An international Crime from preventgenocide.org , my opinion that genocide should be dealt with on a international level, is only stronger.
One main reason why genocide should be on as international level is simply because I do not believe any act of genocide would stop if it were dealt with nationally. The reason for this is that generally it is the state that is carrying out the act of genocide, like the Nazi party of Germany or the government of Czarist Russia and Rumania for the horrifying pogroms their instigated. A state would never prosecute against itself; it would only support itself, therefore supporting the continuation of genocide.
Another reason why genocide must be considered an international crime is because of the many international treaties, which have specific obligations concerning the treatment of one’s own nationals. An example would be the United States and Spain treaty of 1898 in which free exercise of religions was assured by the United States to the inhabitants of the territories, which were ceded to her. Many other examples are found under the League of Nations, which signed a number of European countries after WWII. Under the different treaties the main requirement is there are no persecutions on any account made against any religious or racial group. The Charter of the United Nations Organization also provides for the international protection of human rights, indicating that the denial of such rights by any state is a matter of concern to all mankind. If any country was to go against the obligations of the different treaties, and embark on the mal treatment or purge of population based on racial or religious fact, they would be going against the treaties. By not abiding to the requirements of the treaties, tolerance of the different countries would grow thin; eventually bringing about war. War does not solve the problem it only brings amount more rivalry and killing.
Rivalry and killing only increases the animosity that is created when countries go against their treaties. Trust between countries is broken and the largest damage economically can be seen in the trade market. International trade depends upon the confidence of the participants to fulfill their obligations. If there is doubt it averts trade between the countries involved, which results in a decline of international income, and an increase of unneeded goods within a country. As one can see it is a lose, lose situations.
One final reason to consider genocide an international concern is because all the different heritage in our world has been created with the contributions of all nations. Thing about if Jews who were controlled by Germany were not able to created the bible or birth Jesus, or the poles had not had the opportunity to give to the world a Chopin. Maybe the world would not have had the privilege to seen the creation of the Wright brothers, or mother Teresa’s work, I mean look how much we would be missing? It is not worth it, which is why as world with many nations, we must internationally stand up for peace, or prosperity, and for our heritage.

Genocide song

Here is a small sample of the devistation of genocide, which i really enjoyed when it was put into a song, because the music brings it more to life

A glimse at Hell

Something just reading about genocide, or any other tragic event does not really affect us here in Canada because we can not get a personal feel. For me seeing some of these pictures below helped to have more sympathy. Showing these pictures is only to try to move others as well, seeing as the pictures are vividly disturbing. In actuality I wish that I, along with society could go to where genocide is occurring and get a up close and personal feel to it, and then see if .

Origin of the Word Genocide

In the past, other terms have been instead of genocide like “ Germanization” “Italianization” or Magyarizatoin”. The meaning for them is the impositions by a stronger nations upon a small groups which it controls. Why these terms do not serve a fair purpose as well is because they do not convey biological destruction, and cannot be used in a generic term. Obviously in Indian they would not want to proceed to Germanize their country.
“Hitler stated many times that Germanization could only be carried out with the soil, never with men.” Therefore the killing of men seem to not be part of Germaniziation, which is why an author deemed a new term which involved the killing of races. The new word cames from the ancient Greek word genoc which means race or clan, and the Latin suffix cide (killing). This combination created the word genocide meaning; race killing. Ironically the ending of the word genocide corresponds to such words a tyrannicide, homicide, and patricide.
I partially love how the word genocide relates to tryannicide, which root word is tyrant. A tyrant is known as a villain, someone with a very horrific, and devil like nature, which I believe perfectly, explains the nature behind genocide. “Genocide as defined by the United Nations in 1948 means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, including: (a) killing members of the group (b) causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group (c) deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part (d) imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group (e) forcibly transferring children of the group to another group. Mass murder vs. Genocide

Many people might assume that mass murder and Genocide are the same thing. Although both do involve the brutality of killing many people, it would be we an inadequate term to consider them the same. The main reason for this inadequacy is that mass murder does not explain the motivation behind genocide, which is generally racial, national or religious. Mass murder does not capture the mean nature behind genocide. What this means is best explained by an example. Say a bomb goes off on a bus, like it did in London 2005. Although people are being targeted there is no specific people targeted, all Black’s, White’s, Chinese’s, Buddhist, Christian, Locals, and Tourists will die. The mean spiritless behind genocide is someone is picking and choosing who dies. Imagine being on that bus and you die because you were wearing a blue shirt. Is it you fault that, that morning you choose a blue shirt instead of green? If that really a reason to die for, something you in essence had little control over? Or take take another example, you were born with a dimple in your smile, and you die for that? You have no control over that! That is why genocide is plain mean spirited, because it singles out certain individuals not for their action which they do have control over, but for physical, social, or religious characteristic which they have no control over.

What is our problem?

I find myself wondering what in God’s name would compel a person to annihilate a whole population, kill millions of people? What obscuration of the mind has occurred in our society today for people to follow this new trend of Genocide?
After an immense amount of pondering I have come to two conclusions. One being that our problem revolves around human natures soul tragic flaw: selfishness. People seem to always place themselves before others. Therefore instead of being concerned with rapid deaths of Jews in WWII, countries like Canada, USA, and Britain, sat back for a while concerning themselves with individual crimes within their countries. Everyone wants to make sure they have enough money, security, and happiness until they are willing to lend a helping hand. And it seems to be that generally it is not until there is a unity among nations to stop acts of genocide that anything is done about it. No one ever is willing to stick out their neck too far for justice. It is just too uncomfortable for them, and in reality they are only concerned about themselves.
My Second conclusions, revolves around the fact of how genocide actually comes to be, because most logical people if presented with the idea to whip out nations, would veto it immediately. An example questions to enhance understanding would be “ why did people follow Hitler in his wild tactics and plans?” The answer to this question brings about human nature’s second major flaw: fear. People are too scared to stand up for what is right, because they are afraid of getting hurt, or being in a threatening position. Someone like Hitler is obviously very intimidating because of the amount of power, which he has attained.
In conclusion what our problem is, if our fearful and selfish human nature. We never want to place ourselves in a position of endangerment, because we are essentially concerned about ourselves above all.

Worst Genocides of the twentieth Century

Genocide..the biggining

Due to destruction of the last world war, WWII, there has been a significant amount of focus concerning the destruction of whole populations of nations, racial and religious groups. It is well known that during world war 2 the German’s plan was to exterminate the Poles, Russian, and that of which they were most successful at; the Jews. They also made clear that they intended to achieve success through changing the political and demographic interrelationships in Europe to favor Germany. In order to do this they planned to demographically and culturally destroy the French element in Alsace-Lorraine, the Slovenians in Carniola and Carithia.
Obviously the revolting event of WWII has left the most impact on society thus far, in terms of destruction of whole populations. The heartbreaking fact is there are hundreds of equally horrifying examples of the destructions of populations. A couple of examples are the “destruction of Carthage; that of religious groups in the wars of Islam and the Crusades; the massacres of the Albigenses and the Waldenses; and more recently, the massacre of the Armenians. “ The list continues with genocides in Rwanda, Cambodia, Naking china, and so many more. An even scarier fact that was until recently the destruction of population was not even characterized as a crime. Winston Churchill said in his broadcast of august 1941, “ We are presence of a crime without a name. As of now it is referred to as Genocide
